Our Story

Two Sides of the Same Coin

Myrtle & Mist is a dual-perspective content platform where plant science meets spiritual practice. We believe the best relationship with the living world honours both the measurable and the mysterious.

A Note From Us

This site began, as so many good things do, with love.

I'm Myrtle. I wouldn't call myself a professional — I'm a hobby horticulturist with an academic background and a deep, genuine curiosity about the way plants work. I've grown from seed, from cuttings, from the odd accidental off-cut liberated from a garden centre, and from species I've foraged in the wild. A lot of what I know came from things going wrong: getting a care routine slightly off, giving something too much love, or underestimating just how dramatic an alocasia can be when it's unhappy. There have been quite a few casualties along the way. I learn from every one of them.

My partner is Mist. She's had a fascination with spirituality and mysticism for over a decade — and if you've ever visited us in person, you'll already understand. Our home is genuinely what you might call a cosy witch cottage. She is one of the main reasons it looks the way it does, and one of the main reasons this site exists.

Two sides of the same coin. I built this as a space where she could share what she knows — and somewhere along the way it became a space for everyone who feels that the world around them holds more meaning than it lets on.

Whether you are here for the science or the soul of it, you are welcome. This place exists because of her.

For Mist. Always.

The Botanical Side

The Myrtle Side

Myrtle is the evidence-based, grounded side of things — rooted in curiosity, academic reading, and the kind of practical knowledge you can only get from actual growing. That means seeds started on windowsills, cuttings that took and ones that didn't, plants foraged on walks, and more than a few species that didn't survive the learning curve.

The guides here are written from a place of genuine interest, not authority for authority's sake. Where information comes from botanical literature or scientific sources, we say so. Where something is from personal experience — including the mistakes — we say that too. We don't claim to know more than we do.

Products are reviewed the same way: honestly, with real use, and with no affiliate relationship influencing what we say. Read how we review →

The Spiritual Side

The Mist Side

Mist is the slower, more intuitive side of the site — focused on ritual, energy, and the invisible forces that move through people and the world around them. Her fascination with spirituality and mysticism stretches back over a decade, and it shows in how she lives: our home is what most people would describe as a cosy witch cottage, and that's exactly what we intended.

The content here isn't researched from the outside looking in — it comes from years of genuine daily practice: lunar rhythms, crystal energy, tarot, ritual, and the kind of quiet attentiveness that develops over time. We name our traditions, credit their origins, and are honest about what is ancient wisdom and what is modern interpretation.

We don't claim more than we know. But what we know, we really know.

Editorial Standards

How We Create Content

Research First

Plant profiles are built from botanical databases, peer-reviewed literature, and direct growing experience. Crystal and mineral data is cross-referenced with mineralogical sources. Spiritual content is traced to its origin traditions.

Honest About Limits

We are a content platform, not a substitute for professional horticultural or medical advice. Where evidence is limited or contested — especially in wellness — we say so clearly rather than overstating what is known.

Kept Up to Date

Plant care guidance evolves. Product recommendations change. We review and update our content regularly and flag the last-reviewed date on guides where it matters. If something is wrong, we correct it.

Transparency

Myrtle & Mist participates in affiliate programmes including Amazon Associates. Some links on this site may earn us a small commission at no extra cost to you. We only recommend products we have personally tested or genuinely believe in — affiliate relationships never influence our editorial rankings or scores.

Our product review methodology is published in full. Our broader content methodology — how we source plant care data and approach spiritual content — is explained on our methodology page. If you believe something on this site is inaccurate, please contact us — we take corrections seriously.

Our Mission

For Everyone Who Feels the Connection
